KENNETH MORRISON SENTENCED IN GLASGOW FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST YOUNG BOYS
In a significant legal proceeding held at the High Court in Glasgow, Kenneth Morrison faced justice for his involvement in multiple serious sexual offences committed against three young boys. The court heard detailed accounts of Morrison's actions, which spanned over several years and involved minors at different stages of adolescence.Today, Lord Matthews delivered the sentence, sentencing Morrison to a term of 16 months in detention after he pleaded guilty to three separate charges. These charges involved sexual conduct with three boys, each at different ages and under varying circumstances. The first offence involved a victim who was only 13 years old at the time, with Morrison engaging in mutual masturbation. The second and third offences involved victims aged 15, with the crimes including masturbation, oral sex, and penetration. The court emphasized that these acts are particularly heinous given the victims' young ages and their inability to give meaningful consent.
Lord Matthews acknowledged that Morrison had previously been victimized himself, but he underscored that this factor did not diminish the gravity of his current offences. The judge pointed out that Morrison was fully aware that his actions were illegal, yet he continued to commit these acts despite knowing the law's stance and the harm caused to the victims. The seriousness of the offences, combined with Morrison's age and his early plea of guilty, led to a reduction in the sentence from what could have been a two-year detention period if the case had gone to trial.
Furthermore, the court ordered that Morrison will be subject to the notification requirements under the Sexual Offences Act 2003 for a period of ten years. This means he will be legally obliged to register as a sex offender and comply with related restrictions during this time.
The judge expressed deep concern about the profound impact these crimes have had on the victims, highlighting the importance of the judiciary's role in protecting vulnerable individuals and upholding the law. He also emphasized the importance of judicial independence and the law’s duty to safeguard victims from further harm, reaffirming the community’s need for justice and accountability in cases of sexual offences involving minors.
