KENNETH MANTLE PLEADS GUILTY TO ABUSE IN GRIMSBY - SENTENCED FOR RAPE OF YOUNG GIRL
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Grimsby, Kenneth Mantle, aged 62, of Willingham Street, was found guilty of subjecting a young girl to years of physical and emotional abuse during the 1980s and 1990s.The heinous acts included multiple counts of rape, which only came to light after the victim, who endured this torment in silence for many years, finally summoned the courage to report her ordeal to authorities.
During the court proceedings at Grimsby Crown Court, it was revealed that Mantle had used threats and intimidation to maintain control over his young victim.
One particularly chilling detail was his threat to drown her puppy if she disclosed what he had been doing to her.
This threat was intended to instill fear and silence her, ensuring that she would not speak out about the abuse she suffered.
The victim’s bravery in coming forward was met with justice as Mantle was sentenced to 24 years in prison on Thursday.
The court found him guilty of five counts of raping a girl under the age of 16, a conviction that underscores the severity of his crimes and the impact on the young girl’s life.
Detective Constable Nick Pearce, who was involved in the investigation, described Mantle as an “absolutely loathsome and vile man” who demonstrated a complete lack of care and regard for the young girl’s well-being.
Pearce emphasized that Mantle’s use of violent and heartless threats was a calculated effort to terrify and silence his victim, preventing her from revealing the horror she was subjected to.
The case has brought to light the dark underbelly of abuse that can often remain hidden for years, and the community of Grimsby now grapples with the aftermath of this disturbing chapter.
The justice served aims to provide some measure of closure for the survivor and to send a clear message that such heinous acts will not be tolerated.
