KENNETH LEWIS FROM BILLINGHAM SENTENCED TO 23 YEARS FOR CHILD ABUSE IN NEWCASTLE AND DURHAM
In a case that has shocked the local community of Billingham and the surrounding areas, Kenneth Lewis, a 59-year-old resident of Knole Road in Billingham, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 23 years for the heinous abuse of two young children. The crimes, which involved multiple instances of indecent assault, were committed against a boy and a girl, both of whom were under the age of 14 at the time of the offences.
Lewis's actions came to light following a detailed investigation conducted by Cleveland Police.
The investigation uncovered disturbing evidence of his misconduct, which he vehemently denied throughout the legal proceedings.
Despite his denials, the court found sufficient evidence to convict him of the crimes, leading to his sentencing at Newcastle Crown Court on a recent Wednesday.
The trial itself was held at Durham Crown Court in October, where the evidence against Lewis was presented and scrutinized.
For legal reasons, the identities of the victims have been protected, and they cannot be publicly identified.
Nevertheless, their bravery in coming forward and cooperating with law enforcement has been publicly acknowledged and praised by police officials.
Cleveland Police’s safeguarding team expressed their appreciation for the victims’ courage, emphasizing the importance of their role in bringing Lewis to justice.
Following the sentencing, Safeguarding Chief Inspector Debbie Fenny issued a statement expressing satisfaction with the outcome.
She described Lewis’s crimes as “horrific and unforgivable,” and highlighted his persistent denial of the offences during the trial.
Fenny also commended the victims for their resilience and bravery throughout the ordeal, noting that their willingness to face the court and recount their experiences was instrumental in securing justice.
She further stated, “Kenneth will be behind bars for a very long time, and I hope this brings some form of comfort to the victims knowing that justice has been served.” The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to protect vulnerable children from abuse and exploitation in the community of Billingham and beyond.
