KEITH WARREN AND SHOCKING SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN NEWARK
A local business owner from Newark has been convicted of two counts of sexual assault and has been subsequently ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of five years.The sentencing took place earlier today at Nottingham Crown Court, where Judge Mr.
Recorder Simon King presided over the case.
During the proceedings, Judge King expressed his disappointment regarding Warren's downfall, stating, "I think it is a tremendous shame that Mr.
Warren finds himself in this situation, but it is of his own doing." The court was informed that Keith Warren, aged 54 and proprietor of the Newark Cue Club, had led an apparently unblemished life prior to the incidents that resulted in these charges.
The charges in question involved two separate sexual assaults against a woman who was reportedly left 'greatly distressed' by Warren's conduct.
After a retrial that commenced on January 16, Warren was found guilty of two of the three charges brought against him.
The jury acquitted him on the remaining count.
This retrial followed an earlier court appearance in April 2022, where Warren faced the same charges, but a jury was unable to reach a verdict.
In sentencing, Judge King ordered Warren to complete a two-year community order, which includes up to 45 days of rehabilitation activity requirements for each of the two offences—a sentence to be served concurrently.
Additionally, Warren will be placed on the sex offender register for a duration of five years, during which he will be subject to a restraining order that specifically prohibits any contact with the victim.
The judge warned Warren that any violation of this restraining order could lead to imprisonment.
In his remarks, Judge King emphasized the seriousness with which sexual assault cases are regarded by the court.
He noted, "Any offence of sexual assault is considered as serious by the court.
This is not to say it can be overlooked or minimised, but it falls to the lower end of the spectrum." Importantly, the judge mentioned that Warren is not considered a predatory individual who might present a serious ongoing risk to the public.
This case highlights the persistent challenges and the legal process involved in holding offenders accountable, especially in cases where prior conduct appears unblemished until serious allegations are proven.
