KEYTH SPENCER FROM CAMBERLEY JAILED AGAIN FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY
In January 2011, Keith Spencer, a man from Camberley, was sentenced to prison after accumulating a large collection of child pornography.Spencer, who previously served time for establishing a scout group involved in child abuse, was found to have over 10,000 indecent images of boys in the most severe categories on computers at his Camberley residence and an earlier address in Windsor.
During a court hearing, Spencer, 62, acknowledged that his addiction to child pornography remained unabated despite his prior imprisonment.
He had originally been jailed for seven years in 1998 after participating in a paedophile ring where he set up a scout group, groomed children, and took photographs of them during abuse perpetrated by co-defendants.
Police investigation at the time revealed that Spencer had also indecently assaulted a boy under 16.
Judge Zoe Smith, sitting at Reading Crown Court on November 7, 2010, noted that since his release from prison, Spencer's former neighbours in Windsor had lodged complaints after he invited their son over for ice cream.
Prosecutor Alan Blake reported that in July 2008, a public protection officer, accompanied by police, searched Spencer’s home in Windsor, discovering numerous images of boys on his laptop and USB devices.
In total, authorities seized 105,981 indecent images, with nearly 10,000 classified in the two highest severity levels.
While on bail, Spencer moved to Camberley, where a subsequent routine search of his home in March 2010 uncovered a hidden laptop beneath his bed containing almost 6,000 more indecent pictures of boys.
Defense lawyer Katy Thorne acknowledged Spencer’s ongoing addiction, stating, “He accepts that he continues to have an addiction and may well have it for the rest of his life.” Judge Smith sentenced Spencer to an extended prison term, stating, “You were caught red-handed both times.” She emphasized the risk he posed due to his past convictions and imposed a two-year custodial sentence followed by four years on licence upon his release, aiming to prevent further offending.
