RAPIST WHO ATTACKED SLEEPING WOMAN BRANDED DANGEROUS OFFENDER AND GIVEN EXTENDED SENTENCE
A man who raped a woman as she slept has been branded a "manipulative, nasty bully" who treats women as trophies.A judge expressed confidence that Kieran Lucas qualifies as a dangerous offender, leading to an extended sentence designed for public protection.
Lucas, who has prior convictions for assault, harassment, and controlling behavior towards women, received a sentence indicating the court’s view that he shows little respect for women’s feelings seeing them as trophies rather than individuals.
The 25-year-old, now residing in Heol y Waun, Gelligear, Caerphilly county, was already convicted of rape at Merthyr Crown Court before appearing at Cardiff Crown Court for sentencing.
During the hearing, a statement read on behalf of his victim outlined the lasting harm Lucas’ actions caused her.
As is customary in sexual offense cases, she retains lifelong legal anonymity.
Recorder Greg Bull QC concluded that Lucas displayed no remorse or insight into his crimes, emphasizing his dangerousness to the public and the need for an extended sentence to mitigate the risk.
He addressed Lucas directly, stating: "You are a manipulative, nasty bully who has no regard for women or the way they feel.
For you, a woman is an object or a trophy for you to do as you will.
That attitude will not be tolerated." The court sentenced Lucas to a 12-year overall term, consisting of nine years in prison and three years on licence, with the requirement that he serve at least two-thirds of his custodial time before being eligible for release, subject to Parole Board approval.
Additionally, he will be a registered sex offender for life.
