CAERPHILLY: JEALOUS MAN SMASHED HIS WAY INTO EX’S HOME
Dylan Sussex, 23, was bitter about the break-up with the woman and found it hard to get over the relationship coming to an end.Fuelled by alcohol, he shattered a window at her home in Nelson, Caerphilly late at night before climbing in and attacking her partner.
After Sussex hit him, Tom Roberts, prosecuting, said the defendant warned the man: “I’m going to stab you and put a hole in you." Earlier that day he had told his ex to “kill herself”.
He broke the passenger window of the woman’s car before he left the scene, Cardiff Crown Court was told.
In a victim impact statement, she stated: “I suffer from nightmares as a result of the incident.
Our home is no longer viewed as a safe place.” Sussex pleaded guilty to burglary with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm and criminal damage.
The offences were committed on Saturday, August 30.
He has four previous convictions for six offences and these include two for drug driving and one each for possession of a class A drug and attempted criminal damage.
Martha Smith-Higgins representing Sussex said in mitigation: “He is still young and he has a lot of growing up to do.
The defendant has no previous convictions for violence.
She added: “He could not cope with the breakdown of the relationship.
The defendant lost his head.” Sussex had worked as a broadband installer but had lost his job and ended up homeless, living in a tent.
He had spent close to three months remanded in custody following his arrest.
The judge, Recorder Simon Hughes, told Sussex his offending was so serious that only an immediate prison sentence could be justified.
The defendant was jailed for 27 months and made the subject of a 10-year restraining order not to contact his ex-girlfriend.
He will also have to pay a victim surcharge.
