KATIE BIRKS LEAK SEX OFFENDER SPARED JAIL DESPITE UNDERAGE SEX WITH BOYS IN LEEK

In a case that has shocked the community of Leek, Staffordshire, 20-year-old Katie Birks has narrowly avoided imprisonment after being convicted of engaging in sexual activities with underage boys. The court proceedings revealed a disturbing pattern of misconduct involving the young woman, who had inappropriate relationships with two minors, one of whom she later gave birth to a child with.

According to the evidence presented at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, Birks, who resides on Queen Street in Leek, had a relationship with a 13-year-old boy. The court heard that she became pregnant by him when she was 17 years old. The young boy, who reportedly had learning difficulties, disclosed to police that he had engaged in sexual intercourse with Birks when he was just 13, and on two additional occasions when he was 14. Birks confirmed to authorities that the boy was the father of her child and acknowledged his learning disability.

Further investigations revealed that Birks had started seeing the boy when he was 13, and she admitted to having sex with him on two occasions after the birth of their child. Her actions did not stop there; she was later arrested after she accessed the boy’s Facebook account, breaching previous warnings from authorities to cease contact with young boys. Despite these warnings, Birks continued her inappropriate relationships.

Her misconduct extended beyond the first relationship. The court was informed that Birks formed a relationship with a 15-year-old boy. The situation came to light after social services were alerted to a concerning text message on the boy’s phone, which referenced Birks having sex with his brother. The message read: “If I have sex with your brother, I will have sex with you next time.”

Police investigations revealed that the 15-year-old boy’s father had left his sons alone at home while he was away visiting a girlfriend in the northwest. Police found Birks at the house, where she was reportedly staying with the teenage boy. The young man told police that he was dating Birks, that he was 15 years old, and that she was aware of his age. He also stated that they had engaged in sexual activity, with Birks staying at his house for about four nights.

Birks, who was charged with three counts of sexual activity with a child, pleaded guilty to all charges. Her defense attorney, Jason Holt, argued that the sexual encounters were consensual and that the age difference was not significant. However, the court took a serious view of her actions.

Judge Paul Glenn sentenced Birks to 18 months in a young offenders’ institution, suspended for two years. The sentence included supervision, a requirement to complete a sex offenders’ workbook, and a ban from activities involving children and vulnerable adults. Additionally, Birks was ordered to register as a sex offender for the next ten years and was subject to a five-year sexual offences prevention order (SOPO).

In his remarks, Judge Glenn emphasized that Birks had been repeatedly warned to avoid contact with young boys but had deliberately ignored these warnings. The judge also noted her vulnerability and immaturity, describing her as “cunning and manipulative.” While acknowledging the potential risk she posed to children, Judge Glenn concluded that the risk was manageable under the circumstances, given the conditions of her sentence.
