‘HANDSY’ CHIP SHOP WORKER, 51, ‘LOSES NAME AND REPUTATION’ AFTER GROPING GIRL
A fish and chip shop worker has 'lost his good name and reputation' after being convicted of sexual assault.
Charlie Kyriakou has always denied the sexual assault charge on the teenage girl.
But the 51-year-old was convicted by a jury at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, has been described as 'handsy' by a judge, and is now on the Sex Offenders' Register.
Lee Masters, mitigating, said: “He has 19 character references from people who speak very highly of him and they give proper insight into how he is viewed by the general public.
He was convicted after a trial and still maintains his innocence.” Kyriakou, of Selbourne Road, Leek, has been handed a six-month prison sentence, suspended for nine months.
It includes 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days.
He is now on the Sex Offenders' Register for the next seven years and subject to a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Judge Sally Hancox told Kyriakou: “You have lost your good name and reputation.
These events will have caused great distress to you and your family, but more importantly to the victim and her family.
There is clear and compelling evidence of your wrongdoing despite your not guilty plea.”
