HALIFAX WOMAN WHO 'COULDN'T COPE ANYMORE' THREW BLEACH AT SINGING SCHOOLKIDS
A woman from Halifax named Kathleen Jackson escaped jail after throwing bleach at schoolchildren who were singing nearby following a sleepless night.Jackson, 53, reportedly approached the children on January 12 last year close to her residence on School Lane, requesting silence due to her health condition that affected her sleep.
During a court session on March 6, prosecutor Heather Gilmore described the events: a girl was seated on a wall with others standing around, enjoying music and singing.
The defendant approached them roughly at about 12:45 pm, telling them to "shut up" and citing her night shifts as a reason for her annoyance.
Witnesses recalled Jackson walking down the street, returning with drinks, and then confronting the group again, shouting at them.
Jackson allegedly threatened to call the police and said she would handle the situation herself by getting a bucket of bleach.
Ms Gilmore explained that Jackson threw bleach towards the group, with one girl claiming it was aimed at her eye level.
The bleach hit the girl’s leggings and coat, as well as cuts on her hand.
The girl ran back to school, with Jackson continuing to throw bleach and potentially threatening her vision.
Part of the incident was recorded on video, which was shown to the court.
The girl reported the incident to her headteacher and police, leading to Jackson’s arrest at her home.
Jackson admitted that she had been awake since 8 am and saw the youths outside her home, which upset her.
She claimed she threw bleach in their direction, intending only to target their clothing, not individuals.
The court also heard that Jackson had previously experienced disturbances caused by students dumping rubbish in her garden and overturning her bins.
She had made complaints to the school on two occasions about these issues, like other neighbors.
Representing Jackson, her lawyer said her actions stemmed from prolonged frustration and her inability to cope with the ongoing disturbances.
She has since taken measures to avoid similar confrontations and is waiting to relocate to East Yorkshire.
The judge imposed a 12-month community order, requiring Jackson to complete 25 days of rehabilitation.
While he did not believe the bleach was aimed directly at the children, the judge considered her actions an "outburst of temper," noting her remorse and willingness to accept responsibility for any damage caused.
