GRIMSBY CHARITY FOUNDER SENTENCED FOR ROLE IN ROTHERHAM PAEDOPHILE RING
The founder of a family support group in Grimsby, Karen MacGregor, has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for her role in a paedophile ring operating in Rotherham.MacGregor, aged 59, established the Kinkids support group at Grimsby’s Riverside Sure Start children’s Centre in October 2014.
She was convicted of conspiracy to procure prostitutes and false imprisonment, as part of a criminal conspiracy led by three brothers responsible for causing harm of 'unimaginable proportions.' The court heard that the abuse spanned up to 20 years, with victims targeted and subjected to degrading and violent acts between 1987 and 2003.
The brothers, Arshid Hussain, Basharat Hussain, and Bannaras Hussain, received sentences totaling 79 years, with Arshid sentenced to 35 years for numerous rapes and sexual assaults.
Their uncle, Qurban Ali, was also convicted of conspiracy to rape and sentenced to 10 years.
MacGregor was found guilty along with another woman, of conspiracy to procure prostitutes and false imprisonment, and was sentenced to 13 years, while her co-defendant received an 18-month suspended sentence.
The judge highlighted the devastating impact on victims and praised their courage in coming forward.
It is noted that MacGregor was a registered foster carer with a clear criminal record at the time and that the support group she founded helped many families before disbanding in July following allegations.
Labour MP Melanie Onn condemned MacGregor’s actions, stating she betrayed the trust of many and that the victims have suffered terribly from her actions and authorities' inaction.
