KACPER BELZEK FROM WITNEY JAILED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCE ATTEMPT INVOLVING 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL

In August 2014, a serious criminal case unfolded involving Kacper Belzek, a forklift truck driver residing on Burwell Drive in Witney. Belzek was convicted and subsequently sentenced to two years in prison after a trial that revealed disturbing details about his attempt to engage in sexual activity with a minor.

Belzek faced charges related to the deliberate arrangement of a child sex offence, specifically for his actions between September 21 and October 2 of the previous year. The case centered around his efforts to meet and have sexual relations with a 14-year-old girl, with whom he had exchanged approximately 800 messages over the internet. The extensive communication indicated a clear intent to meet, which the jury unanimously found to be criminal behavior.

During the four-day trial, Belzek maintained that his actions were driven by anger and frustration after the girl falsely claimed she was 16 when they first met. It was only later that she disclosed her true age of 14. The court heard that Belzek had initially believed the girl was older, but his attitude changed once her real age was revealed. Despite this, he had already met her in person and engaged in sexual activity before knowing her true age.

Judge Patrick Eccles, presiding over the case, emphasized that the severity of the offence was compounded by the fact that Belzek had actually met and had sex with the girl before discovering her age. The judge pointed out that Belzek's subsequent attempts to arrange another meeting demonstrated a troubling disregard for the law and the safety of minors. It was noted that Belzek was not prosecuted for the act of having sex with a minor, but his actions in attempting to meet her again were deemed criminal.

Belzek’s defense attorney, Nigel Daley, described his client’s behaviour as “stupid” and expressed hope that such actions would not be repeated. Daley argued that Belzek’s change of heart indicated he was not intent on meeting the girl after all, and suggested that the age disparity was not significant given the girl’s behaviour prior to their meeting. He assured the court that Belzek had no prior convictions and was unlikely to reoffend.

However, Judge Eccles was firm in his sentencing, emphasizing the gravity of the offence. Belzek was sentenced to two years in prison and will be on the sex offenders’ register for the next ten years. Additionally, he was ordered to pay a £120 victims’ surcharge. The judge also criticized Belzek for his lack of understanding of the wrongfulness of his actions, stating that he did not demonstrate any remorse or comprehension of the harm caused by attempting to encourage a young girl to engage in sexual activity.

Overall, the case highlights the dangers of online communication and the importance of safeguarding minors from predatory behaviour. Belzek’s actions serve as a stark reminder of the legal consequences faced by those who attempt to exploit vulnerable young individuals, even if their intentions are ultimately thwarted by law enforcement.
