JUSTIN WILLIAMS FROM DUNDEE SENTENCED FOR CRUELTY TO STAFFY KEIRA IN SQUALID CONDITIONS

Justin Williams, a resident of Dundee, has been convicted of severe animal neglect involving his pet dog, Staffy Keira. The incident came to light when the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) intervened after neighbors expressed concern about the dog's deteriorating condition.

Williams, born on May 10, 1995, and residing at 7G Elders Court in Dundee, was found to have kept Keira in deplorable circumstances within his flat. The SSPCA officers described the environment as a scene of squalor, with the hallway featuring bare floorboards and a dirty dog bowl left on the floor.

Keira was discovered in a critically emaciated state, weighing only 9.5 kilograms—approximately half her normal body weight. Her condition was so dire that she exhibited little muscle mass, and her nails were overgrown due to a lack of proper care and exercise. The officers confirmed that her health issues were primarily caused by neglect and inadequate nutrition.

During questioning, Williams admitted that Keira had been losing weight, which raised further alarm among the SSPCA staff. An examination of the dog revealed no other abnormalities besides her extreme emaciation and overgrown nails.

Following her rescue, Keira was taken to the SSPCA’s local rescue centre, where she received necessary treatment and care. Her condition improved over time, and she was eventually rehomed to a caring family.

Scottish SPCA inspector Alastair Adams commented on the case, stating, “This was a case of serious neglect, and Keira would not have survived much longer had we not intervened. We welcome the sentence handed down. Williams was simply not capable of meeting Keira’s most basic needs.”

In court, Williams was ordered to pay a fine of £250 and was banned from owning or keeping animals for a period of two years. Despite the severity of the neglect, the relatively short ban and fine have drawn criticism from animal welfare advocates.

This case highlights the ongoing issue of animal cruelty in Dundee and the importance of community vigilance in protecting vulnerable animals from neglect and abuse.
