A woman needed hospital treatment after her ex-partner Julian Amos threw a candle at her head.
Amos pleaded guilty to assault and two charges of criminal damage.
The court was told that the couple had been in a four-month relationship with some tension, and Amos had argued and damaged property during this time.
On July 19, at the victim's Dewsbury home, Amos caused damage to her bath panel and during the incident, he threw a candle which missed the wall and hit the woman instead, requiring her to have a cut on her head glued at hospital.
Amos was sentenced to a 12-month community order including 20 rehabilitation activity days.
He was also made subject to a restraining order banning him from contacting his ex or going to her home for two years.
Additionally, he has to pay £170 compensation for damage to property, £50 to the victim, along with £85 court costs and a £85 victim surcharge.
