TUNBRIDGE WELLS MAN JAILED FOR RELENTLESS VIOLENCE AND MENTAL ABUSE
A man from Tunbridge Wells has been sentenced to four years in prison after subjecting his former partner to a series of violent attacks and psychological abuse.Joshua Hamilton was responsible for multiple crimes, including regularly assaulting her, tearing her clothes, and issuing threats to kill.
The abuse spanned the years 2020 and 2021 and lasted more than twelve months.
His violent conduct included punching, kicking, standing on her feet, pulling her hair, striking her with a belt, and grabbing her around the neck with force.
Alongside the physical violence, the victim suffered ongoing mental harassment, being sometimes forced into a corner facing a wall, kept under constant surveillance, and threatened with death or serious harm.
Hamilton, living on Rankine Road, was initially taken into custody in April 2020 and admitted to charges such as two assaults, sending threatening messages, and criminal damage.
He was subsequently sentenced on 26 April 2022 to four years in prison and was issued a ten-year restraining order.
Detective Chief Inspector Steve Mclean, leading the West Kent Vulnerability Investigation Team, noted Hamilton’s consistent efforts to control, shame, and degrade his partner, who was kept in a state of fear for her life.
The officer also commended the victim’s bravery in providing testimony to secure Hamilton’s conviction.
Kent Police reiterated their resolve to combat domestic violence and encouraged victims to seek help in times of need.
