TRAFFORD MAN JAILED FOR VIOLENT DOMESTIC ABUSE AND COERCIVE BEHAVIOUR
Joshua Fregene, aged 31, has been found guilty and sentenced to three years and one month in prison after being convicted of multiple severe offences related to domestic abuse. His misconduct included controlling and coercive tactics, physical assault, and causing actual bodily harm.
Over a lengthy and tumultuous ten-year relationship with a 25-year-old woman, Fregene subjected her to ongoing emotional and physical violence.
His attacks included punching her, striking her stomach while she was six months pregnant, and physically hitting her until bruises, a black eye, and a nosebleed appeared.
On some occasions, he threw objects that injured her stomach, and during arguments, he poured water over her.
He also damaged her mobile phone and prevented her from having one for her safety.
Psychologically, he gaslighted her by making her believe she was at fault, sending her a suicide note, and making threats against her life—including threatening to kill himself and blaming her for the children’s future without a father figure.
In addition, he strangled her, punched her repeatedly when she curled up to protect herself, and threatened to cut her throat.
His controlling behavior extended to checking and searching her phone without permission, destroying her phone to isolate her, and forbidding her from accessing technology.
The judge’s ruling followed convictions for coercive control, assault causing actual bodily harm, and related charges.
A five-year restraining order was imposed, preventing Fregene from contacting the woman.
Detective Ross Sidebottom of GMP’s Trafford District praised the victim’s bravery in speaking out, stating, “Firstly, I want to acknowledge and commend the victim’s bravery for coming forward and speaking to us about the abuse Fregene inflicted upon her.” Described as having no fixed address, Fregene was characterized as a dangerous individual who displayed no remorse.
The sentence aims to provide some relief and justice for the victim involved.
