HALIFAX MAN JAILED FOR KILLING PARTNER IN FRONT OF CHILDREN
Jordan Thackray, aged 28, received a life sentence after pleading guilty to the murder of his partner, Jessica King, 23, at their residence on Oxford Lane in Halifax during August.
The court heard that Thackray strangled Ms King a few hours after she warned him, saying, "I know what you're going to do, you're going to kill me." Despite her fears, he assaulted her even with her two young daughters, aged four months and five years, present in the house.
Prosecutor Jason Pitter QC described their relationship as volatile, revealing Thackray had just completed a four-week drug binge and had learned she was with another man.
In their final phone conversation, he threatened her, saying: "Slag.
Watch what I do.
If I can't have you, no-one can," to which she replied, "I know what you're going to do, you're going to kill me." Thackray was sentenced to a minimum of 17 years imprisonment.
Judge Durham-Hall criticized Thackray for killing her at their home with the children nearby, emphasizing the profound effect on the family and stating, "The impact on this family is incalculable."
