LLANDUDNO JUNCTION SEX OFFENDER DOWNLOADED PRIVATE BROWSERS
A MAN from Llandudno Junction who was jailed for having sex with children he met online breached his sexual offences prevention order (SOPO) following his release from prison.
Jonathon Kennedy, 38, of Conway Road, was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment in 2012 after admitting 28 charges.
Kennedy, former of Rhyl, appeared at Caernarfon Crown Court on Wednesday (April 15), having admitted breaching the SOPO.
The court heard Kennedy was released from prison on licence in 2017, and remained on licence in 2022.
But in 2020, while still on licence, he breached his sex offenders register notification requirements.
When a police officer carried out an unplanned visit to his address on November 6, 2025, Kennedy was found to have downloaded the web browsers TOR and DuckDuckGo on his mobile phone, which are private internet browsers.
This constituted a breach of his SOPO.
Representing Kennedy, Gareth Bellis said he had no convictions since 2012, and is a full-time carer for his father, who has serious heart issues.
His father’s life would be “dramatically changed” if he went to prison.
Kennedy pleaded guilty to breaching the SOPO at the first opportunity.
Judge Simon Mills handed Kennedy a two-year suspended sentence, and ordered him to complete 20 days’ rehabilitation activity and a 26-session programme requirement.
Judge Mills emphasized that Kennedy’s 2012 conviction involved “really serious sexual offences,” and that it will “follow you for the rest of your life.” He told Kennedy to strictly obey his notification requirements and SHPO, warning that re-offending again in a sexual manner would result in a very long prison sentence.
He acknowledged Kennedy’s dependence on his father but chose to give him a final chance, stating that obedience was mandatory or he would return to prison.
In 2012, Kennedy was convicted of grooming and sexual offences involving children, and possession of 292 indecent images of children, with offences also committed in Rhyl, Leeds, Stoke, and Nottingham.
