MAN ASSAULTED PARTNER AND POLICE OFFICERS

A man from Llandudno Junction has been sentenced to prison after assaulting his partner and two female police officers, as well as violating a domestic abuse protection order.

James McLoughlin, aged 31 and residing on Queens Road, received a two-year jail term at Mold Crown Court on November 11.

He previously pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm without intent, breaching a domestic abuse protection order, and assaulting two emergency workers.

Prosecutor David Mainstone explained that around 5.30am on April 5, police officers Ryan and Hampton responded to reports of a domestic disturbance at a property in Llandudno Junction.

McLoughlin was present with his partner, Tammy Mason.

He was detained on suspicion of assault and searched outside the house.

When asked to walk to a police vehicle, he displayed passivity and resistance.

Once inside the car, he refused multiple commands to re-enter.

Officers had to spray him with captor spray when his resistance persisted, after which he became unresponsive.

During the incident, McLoughlin struck two female officers.

PC Ryan reported pain in her left hand, with her index finger swollen and reddened, while PC Hampton sustained a cut that bled on her right hand.

PC Ryan described the experience as causing her significant distress and altering her perception of her role as a police officer, emphasizing she acted professionally and respectfully.

PC Hampton expressed that she would not forget what occurred, noting she showed compassion towards McLoughlin, who apparently exploited her kindness.

Further violence occurred on June 19 when Ms Mason received a forehead wound that reopened and exposed her skull.

A domestic abuse protection order was imposed on July 18, prohibiting McLoughlin from contacting her.

However, two days later, police arrested him after his mother alerted authorities about a breach.

During her arrest, McLoughlin claimed that he was arguing with Ms Mason while intoxicated and had pushed her, which led to the reopening of her forehead wound, now swollen and bloodied.

Representing McLoughlin, who has a history of 17 convictions across 23 offenses, solicitor Mark Connor noted that McLoughlin’s mental health has improved since custody.

He highlighted that his dependency on drugs and alcohol contributed to his criminal behavior and urged the court to consider his guilty pleas.

Judge Timothy Petts sentenced McLoughlin, pointing out that he caused Ms Mason a serious facial injury that resulted in heavy bleeding.

He also emphasised that assaulting police officers, who serve the public, is unacceptable.
