STALKER JAILED FOR TERRORISING FORMER PARTNER IN CORNWALL
A man has been sentenced to two years in prison for harassing his former partner and causing her significant distress.Jonathon Champion, aged 52 and formerly from the Callington area, appeared at Truro Crown Court on August 8, 2025, to be sentenced after pleading guilty to charges related to harassment that caused alarm, as well as breaching a restraining order.
It was revealed in court that Champion had continued to target the victim repeatedly since the end of their relationship.
After his prior conviction in 2024 for similar offences involving the same woman, a restraining order was issued to prevent him from contacting her directly or indirectly and from visiting her residence.
Despite this, Champion contacted the victim via Facebook in February this year, where he made multiple posts that derogatorily referred to her without mentioning her by name.
Some messages hinted at revenge and karma.
Following his release from custody, Champion also sought assistance from others to observe the victim and report her location.
He reached out to the victim’s daughter and other family members to discuss her, which underscored his obsession and effort to isolate her from her loved ones.
The voice recordings sent to police were highly offensive.
A probation officer observed that Champion remained obsessed with the victim, despite the restrictions and prior sentence.
His phone contained messages requesting friends to send photos and updates about her.
WhatsApp exchanges demonstrated that he had continuously monitored her social media accounts and tracked her online activity.
Concerned about the ongoing threat and his behaviour, authorities arrested Champion on March 7.
He chose not to make any comments during the police interview.
DC Isla Ferguson, overseeing the case, remarked: “Despite serving time previously for offences against her, Champion kept targeting the victim and making her life difficult.
“A restraining order did little to stop his behaviour as he kept surveillance and obsessively monitored her.
This must have been terrifying for her.
“He also involved others in his surveillance to increase her vulnerability and escalate his troubling actions.
“I commend her resilience and trust that this sentence helps her to move on.
Our team remains committed to tackling crimes targeting women and girls.”
