CALLINGTON MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL ASSAULT ON PREGNANT PARTNER AND VIOLENCE
A woman beater has been convicted for a brutal assault on his pregnant partner, which included punching, hair pulling, kicking, and dragging her from a vehicle as she tried to escape.Christopher Bridgman, aged 23 and from Callington, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assault, criminal damage, driving whilst disqualified, and drink driving.
The court was told that Bridgman had a violent history when under the influence of alcohol, and that his relationship with the victim, who was eight months pregnant, had deteriorated.
On October 10, Bridgman had damaged their flat before the incident, and on the same day, his partner went to the flat to prepare for the baby's arrival.
Bridgman, clearly intoxicated, then demanded she accompany him to a social club, where he continued his abusive behavior, including bruising her after hitting her head against a window and strangling her so hard she thought she was going to die.
He also dragged and threw her around the flat while shouting abuse.
When she attempted to leave, Bridgman grabbed her by the hair, strangled her, and dragged her back into the living room.
She was punched numerous times, causing her nose to bleed, and was beaten on her stomach in an assault witnessed by others.
Bridgman also attacked a neighbor who tried to intervene.
He was arrested following the incident.
The court sentenced Bridgman to two years and nine months in prison, with a three-year driving ban and a restraining order.
The baby was born healthy.
