BOLTON MAN SENTENCED FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND COERCIVE CONTROL
A coercive and controlling man assaulted his partner "consistently" over the course of their relationship.Johnny Allen, 44, was found to have punched, strangled, and "smashed" her head against a wall.
The victim reported that Allen also told her to change her clothes, questioning her attire and behavior.
The assault on the victim occurred on November 28 last year when police attended her address after a call related to an attack.
Photos showed her bloodied, with a broken nose and swelling to her cheek, while bloodstains were visible on Allen’s clothing.
Police reports detail that Allen went through her phone and provoked an argument, which resulted in him punching her approximately six times.
He then left before police arrived.
The victim expressed feeling depressed and frightened, stating she did not seek medical help due to fear.
Court proceedings revealed Allen’s history of violence, including a 2015 battery where he pulled an ex-partner off her bed by the hair and assaulted her.
Allen has pleaded guilty to controlling and coercive behaviour from September 2019 to November 2024, as well as to assault by beating.
The judge noted that the relationship was marked by violent disputes, often aggravated by alcohol consumption.
Allen, who initially went by the names Ged Penney or Ged Barron, was sentenced to 20 months in prison and received a restraining order against the victim.
The court heard that he showed remorse and had a troubled personal background, including a difficult childhood and alcohol issues.
The sentence reflects the serious nature of his repeated violence and coercive control.
