NOTTINGHAMSHIRE MAN JAILED FOR HORRIFIC CHILD ASSAULT
An extremely disturbing incident occurred in August 2021 when Johnathan Harris, a 40-year-old man from Nottinghamshire, inflicted severe injuries on a three-year-old boy.
Harris caused more than 60 bruises, fractured the child's ribs and skull, and injured his kidney during a brutal attack.
The injuries were described as 'life-threatening' by medical professionals at Leeds General Infirmary.
Harris pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent at an earlier hearing.
The court heard that after his arrest, Harris initially denied causing the injuries but later admitted to striking the boy twice with the back of his hand, describing these as 'slaps.' The judge sentenced Harris to an extended sentence of 14 and a half years, which includes 10 and a half years in custody followed by a four-year extended license period.
Harris must serve at least two-thirds of his sentence before being considered for parole.
The court emphasized that 'whatever you did left him with injuries similar to those sustained in a high-speed road traffic collision' and highlighted the brutality of the attack, which has left the young boy with lasting trauma and physical injuries.
