MAN WHO FORCED EX-PARTNER TO FLEE ON TO ROOF WITH BABY IS JAILED
A man who smashed his way into his ex-partner’s new house and forced her to flee on to a roof with her baby to escape has been jailed.Jerome Gibson’s victim described to Nottingham Crown Court how she faced ongoing abuse during their relationship, which included frequent physical assaults, manipulation over her clothing choices and social contacts, and the sending of sexually abusive messages.
This preceded the violent incident that ultimately led to his incarceration.
The incident was triggered on 8 May 2024 when Gibson arrived at the property in The Bassett, Langwith Junction, where the woman was staying with a friend.
He forcibly entered the house by kicking the door and wielding a shovel before grabbing a kitchen knife from inside.
Inside, the woman and her friend hid upstairs with her baby.
Gibson then ascended and broke down the door of the room they were in.
He engaged in a physical altercation with the woman’s friend, prompting the pair to attempt escape by climbing onto the roof of an extension with the baby.
During the escape, her friend jumped off the roof in an effort to seek help.
Gibson fled the scene when police arrived, leaving the knife behind in the garden.
Following his arrest, he faced charges including controlling and coercive behavior, two counts of criminal damage, and threatening another person with an offensive weapon.
He later accepted a plea deal, admitting to two criminal damage charges and threatening someone with a knife.
The 23-year-old, who had no fixed address, also pleaded guilty to unlawfully and maliciously causing grievous bodily harm to a police officer during a separate incident on 3 June 2025, when he shoulder-barged the officer, dislocating his shoulder, to avoid arrest for traffic violations.
On 5 January, Gibson was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court to three years and eight months in prison.
