NOTTINGHAM MAN SENTENCED FOR VIOLENT THREATS AND COERCIVE BEHAVIOR
A violent partner threatened to cut his girlfriend's face with a pizza cutter and to burn her with the flame from a deodorant can. These terrifying threats were part of a campaign of controlling and coercive behavior inflicted by Anthony Pendleton against his ex-partner.
Nottingham Crown Court heard Pendleton physically assaulted her, calling her names and escalating his violence after being annoyed that she had gambled on an online app.
The incident escalated when Pendleton, shouting at her and accusing her of lying, threw ant powder at her, then brandished a pizza cutter while threatening, "I'm going to cut your face," intending to prevent anyone from looking at her.
He proceeded to kick her ribs and legs, only stopping when she became sick.
Later, he grabbed a deodorant can and threatened to burn her with the flame, but the can malfunctioned, saving her from injury.
Further violence included an attempt to choke her, but she managed to plead him to stop and made a silent 999 call to police, where her distress was recorded and heard by the judge.
The court sentenced Pendleton to 29 months in prison.
She now suffers from panic attacks, has anxiety that prevents her from leaving the house, and no longer wears fake tan because Pendleton did not like it.
Pendleton pleaded guilty to controlling and coercive behavior and causing criminal damage.
Barrister Lisa Hardy remarked that Pendleton was ashamed of his conduct.
Judge Stuart Rafferty KC stated that for four months, Pendleton had made his victim's life miserable through repeated cruelty, violence, and belittling.
He ordered Pendleton, 32, from Winchester Close, to serve half of his sentence and the remaining on license, and imposed a ten-year restraining order.
