WESTON-SUPER-MARE MAN HANDED SUSPENDED SENTENCE FOR MANSLAUGHTER OF WIFE
A man named John Woodbridge has been given a two-year suspended jail sentence after pleading guilty to manslaughter in relation to his wife, Anne Woodbridge, aged 92.Woodbridge was taken into custody following his wife’s death at their residence located on Ashcombe Road in Weston-super-Mare on January 30.
Though he was originally charged with murder, he admitted to diminished responsibility manslaughter, which the court accepted.
The proceedings took place at Bristol Crown Court, where Judge Pushpinder Singh described the event as 'incredibly tragic' and mentioned that Woodbridge was 'overwhelmed' by his wife’s dementia and declining health.
It was revealed that Mrs.
Woodbridge was found dead at the scene after carers failed to gain access to the property, and a post-mortem identified suffocation as the cause of death.
The judge stated that Woodbridge's health condition rendered him unable to 'form rational judgment' and emphasized that he had a history of good character prior to these events.
Detective Chief Inspector Ben Lavender expressed his condolences, stating, 'The tragic circumstances of Anne Woodbridge’s death deeply affect us, and our sympathies are with her family and friends during this difficult time.'
