MAN JAILED FOR SEXUALLY ASSAULTING WOMAN
A man aged 45 has received a nine-year prison sentence after being convicted of sexually assaulting a woman who was in a vulnerable state.James Murray, a resident of Weston-super-Mare, was sentenced after admitting to four counts of sexual assault, as well as charges of attempting to pervert the course of justice and careless driving.
At Bristol Crown Court on Friday (17 October), authorities revealed that emergency services were summoned to a property in Weston-super-Mare where a woman was found distressed.
Further investigations led to the victim disclosing that Murray had assaulted her sexually while she was unable to consent.
The court also learned that Murray had recorded footage of the assault on his mobile phone for personal satisfaction.
After being detained and sent to prison, Murray attempted to contact the victim by sending her multiple letters aimed at discouraging her from pursuing legal action and urging her to avoid police engagement.
The proceedings also described an unrelated incident where Murray was driving recklessly; he nearly hit two pedestrians after crashing into a fence near them and then drove away before law enforcement arrived.
In addition to his prison term, Murray will be placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life, which restricts him from working with vulnerable individuals in the future.
He also received a 15-year restraining order and nine penalty points on his provisional driving license.
