WESTON-SUPER-MARE MAN JAILED FOR CHILD SEX ATTACK

A man was sentenced to prison after groping a teenage girl.

According to court proceedings, Gintaras Kontautas instructed the 14-year-old girl to raise her arms, then lifted her shirt and lowered her bra before touching her breasts and licking one.

The 38-year-old resident of Monkton Avenue in Weston-super-Mare denied any misconduct.

However, following a trial at Bristol Crown Court, a jury found him guilty of engaging in sexual activities with a minor.

The presiding judge, Mark Horton, sentenced Kontautas to three years in prison, emphasizing the damaging effects of sexual assault on mental health and trust in relationships.

Additionally, he ordered him to register as a sex offender for life and prohibited him from working with children or vulnerable adults.

During the hearing, the girl provided a victim personal statement expressing feelings of anger and sadness, revealing that she had contemplated suicide and changed her career path as a consequence of the abuse.

The defense solicitor, Sasha Bailey, highlighted that Kontautas lives with his mother and had no prior offenses before or after the incident.

She acknowledged the need for punishment and requested the possibility of a suspended sentence, urging for a short immediate jail term if prison was deemed necessary.
