MAN JAILED FOR SUBJECTING EX-PARTNER TO CAMPAIGN OF ABUSE
A man has received a prison sentence after being convicted of subjecting his partner to an extended campaign of psychological and physical mistreatment.Aaron Cheetham, aged 37 and from Weston-super-Mare, was sentenced to 10 months behind bars and ordered to stay away from the victim for 10 years during a hearing at Bristol Crown Court on Tuesday, August 26.
Earlier, Cheetham was also found guilty by a jury of intentionally strangling his partner, following an investigation into domestic abuse conducted by Avon and Somerset Police.
The conviction was announced at the same court in March.
The court proceedings detailed how Cheetham, over the course of their year-long relationship, exercised control over the victim’s daily activities, kept her isolated from friends and family, kept track of her whereabouts, and issued repeated threats and intimidations.
The abusive behavior ended in a violent episode where he purposely strangled her, resulting in serious physical and emotional harm.
Police investigator Detective Constable Liberty McCaffrey, who led the case, commented: “This conviction reflects the seriousness of the offences and the courage of the victim in coming forward and supporting the investigation.
“Controlling and coercive behaviour is insidious and deeply damaging.
We are committed to protecting victims and bringing perpetrators to justice.”
