JOHN (WILL) GREEN FROM HEXHAM AND MORPETH ADMITS TO MAKING INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN

In a serious development in the ongoing fight against child exploitation, John William Green, a former police communications officer, has admitted to possessing nearly 100 indecent images of children. The incident has sent shockwaves through the communities of Hexham and Morpeth, where Green has lived and worked.

Green, aged 42, appeared before Teesside Magistrates’ Court on a recent Friday to enter a guilty plea concerning the possession of these disturbing images. The court proceedings revealed that Green, who was once the head of the Cleveland Police Corporate Communications Unit, had a significant role within law enforcement communications. Prior to his tenure with Cleveland Police, he served as a corporate communications adviser for Northumbria Police from 2008 until 2013.

At the time of his arrest, Green was residing in Morpeth, although he was previously listed as living on Collingwood Drive in Hexham. Following his arrest, he was suspended from his duties with Cleveland Police, and subsequently, he resigned from his position. The case was brought to light after the National Crime Agency provided Cleveland Police with information regarding the indecent images, although specific details of the case were not disclosed during the court proceedings.

During the court appearance, Green was dressed in a grey suit paired with a white shirt. He spoke only to confirm his personal details, including his name, address, and date of birth, before formally entering his guilty plea. The prosecutor, Ian Martin, stated that Green’s actions had betrayed the trust placed in him by his colleagues and the community.

As part of the legal process, Green will be subject to the mandatory notification requirements following his guilty plea, which involve registering as a sex offender and adhering to related restrictions. His sentencing has been scheduled for August 24 at 2 pm at Teesside Magistrates’ Court. Until then, Green has been granted unconditional bail, allowing him to remain free pending his next court appearance.
