PREDATORY FORMER POSTMAN JAILED FOR SEX OFFENCES
A former postal worker with a history of predatory behavior has been sentenced to prison after committing multiple sexual offences in Northumberland.Michael Stewart exploited his role to exploit five women.
His crimes came to public attention after one of his victims reported the incident to authorities in November 2021.
Now aged 63 and residing on Windsor Terrace in Amble, Stewart was taken into custody and faced charges including 10 counts of sexual assault, three counts of exposure, and a single harassment charge with intimidation.
Despite denying the allegations, he was convicted on eight counts of sexual assault and the remaining charges following a nine-day court trial held at Newcastle Crown Court in November 2024.
On the same day, Stewart was brought before the court for sentencing and received a term of six years and six months in prison.
In addition to his prison sentence, he will be lifelong registered as a sex offender.
