PERVERT HAD MORE THAN 20,000 INDECENT PICTURES OF CHILDREN
A man from Horwich was found to have more than 20,000 indecent pictures of children in his possession.John Newbon, aged 46, downloaded the material over a seven-year period between 2013 and 2020, and it was accessible until being caught in 2024.
Police were notified that Newbon was accessing the images and carried out a warrant at his home on Vale Coppice, Horwich, on September 7 last year.
Bolton Crown Court heard about his offending on October 6 this year.
Prosecuting, Sam Eskdale said: "He had his computer in an annexe at the back of the house.
Twenty-three devices were seized, and of the devices seized, a number of them were submitted for forensic analysis.
There were 174 still and moving category A images, 441 still and moving category B images and 20,960 still and moving category C images." Category A are the most serious types of images of children, with category C being of lesser seriousness.
The court also heard search terms Newbon used, such as "gay PTHC" - standing for pre-teen hardcore - and "lesbian PTHC".
The children in the images were estimated to be between the ages of 12 and 16.
Mr Eskdale described his offending as "deliberate and systemic searching of images portraying young children".
Newbon pleaded guilty to the offences at an earlier date and had no previous convictions.
Mitigating, Jemima Stephenson-Finn referred to the probation report, which judged him as having a "realistic prospect of rehabilitation".
She added: "More positively, he has already taken steps towards rehabilitation, carrying out, of his own accord, a 'safer lives' course, one which defendants of this nature are regularly ordered to undertake.
