KILMARNOCK SEX OFFENDER AVOIDS JAIL DESPITE GROOMING AND INDECENT MESSAGING
A man named John Kidd, from Kilmarnock, was found guilty of engaging in sexual activity with or towards a child for sexual gratification or for humiliating, distressing, or alarming the girl in June 2018.
He also touched the girl on the buttocks with his hand and repeatedly made sexual comments, notably stating how attractive she was.
Kidd coerced the victim into viewing a sexual image and communicating indecently with him between February 2018 and August 2020 at an address in Cumnock and elsewhere.
Furthermore, he sent her sexual written communications and indecent Snapchat messages, requesting intimate pictures and implying a desire for sexual contact.
Despite the guilty verdict by a majority jury at Ayr Sheriff Court, Kidd was spared jail and instead received a community payback order with supervision for two years, 150 hours of unpaid work within 12 months, and is subject to police sex offender notification requirements for two years.
Additionally, a non-harassment order was issued, preventing contact with the victim for five years.
