BLACKPOOL MAN JOHN HEGGIE SENTENCED TO NINE YEARS FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES

A man described as 'despicable' for his heinous crimes against young children has been handed a significant prison sentence of nine years. John Heggie, aged 63 and residing on Troutbeck Crescent in Blackpool, was convicted of multiple child sexual offences that took place in 2022. The disturbing case came to public attention after reports were made to Lancashire Constabulary, prompting a thorough investigation into the allegations.

Following a trial held at Preston Crown Court, Heggie was found guilty of several serious charges, including causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, and sexual assault on a child. The court's verdict reflects the gravity of his actions and the harm inflicted upon his young victims. As part of his sentencing, Heggie was ordered to serve a total of nine years in prison. Additionally, he was mandated to register as a sex offender and was subjected to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which aims to restrict his contact with minors and prevent further offences.

DC Tristan Farley, a police spokesperson, expressed his condemnation of Heggie’s actions, stating, “Heggie’s victims are children – some of the most vulnerable members of our society. He preyed on them and used them for his own perverted sexual gratification. He is a despicable man, and I welcome the custodial sentence handed down on him this month. The victims in this case have been incredibly brave throughout the whole process. I can only praise them for having the strength to come forward and talk to us. I hope that with Heggie behind bars, they can now begin to rebuild and move forward in their young lives.”

He also issued a message to other potential victims, emphasizing that law enforcement is committed to supporting those affected by sexual offences. “If you have been a victim of any sexual offence, please know that you will be listened to, your report will be investigated, and we will do everything we can to get you justice,” Farley added.
