BLACKPOOL MAN JAILED FOR RAPING PRESTON WOMEN
Matthew Marcus Terry, aged 24, residing on Taylor Terrace in Blackpool, was convicted of committing sexual assaults and rapes in Preston and Manchester in 2018.He was found guilty of raping one woman twice and sexually assaulting another woman, leading to his sentencing to six years in prison.
Judge Simon Medland QC described Terry as "sexually demanding," especially when intoxicated, and emphasized the significant impact his actions had on the victims’ relationships and mental health.
The judge stated that Terry exhibited "boarish drunken behavior" that culminated in rape, neglecting the victims' feelings and dignity.
Terry was convicted of raping the first woman at an address in Preston’s Ashton area and again at a house party, where he allegedly locked her in a bedroom.
The first victim reported suffering from depressive episodes and anxiety after the assault.
A second woman also recounted being assaulted at a Preston flat after a night out, where she awoke to find Terry kissing and groping her in bed, before her boyfriend intervened.
Terry offered no comment during police interviews and continues to deny the charges.
Prosecutor David Pojur characterized him as someone who seeks sexual gratification without regard for women’s consent, prioritizing his lust over their rights.
Defense lawyer Beverly Hackett acknowledged Terry’s regret and understanding of the severity of his convictions, which will follow him for life given the notification orders.
Terry has to register as a sex offender for life.
The court highlighted that he has no prior criminal record and has lost his good character, with his offending having long-lasting effects on the victims.
