John Haigh, a 65-year-old man from Peterhead, was involved in a domestic incident where he threatened to harm his partner with a dog lead after a two-day argument over their pet dog.Court proceedings revealed that Haigh left his partner feeling frightened and alarmed, having told her, "See this dog lead, I am going to strangle you." The incident escalated when Haigh returned the next morning following an overnight disagreement, and around 3 pm, he physically assaulted her before making the threat.
During the police arrest, Haigh stated, "She kept calling me an a******* I said I would kill her if she called me it again." Haigh pleaded guilty to charges of threatening and abusive behaviour and domestic assault.
The court was told that alcohol played a part in his actions, and he expressed remorse, stating, "I am sorry it’s happened.
I have been staying in a basement since.
I wish it had never happened." The sheriff ordered Haigh to be of good behaviour for four months and deferred sentencing until August, warning him to "Behave yourself."
