EX-SOLDIER RAPIST HANDED EIGHT-YEAR PRISON SENTENCE IN GLASGOW
A former soldier who raped two ex-partners has been sentenced to prison for eight years.John Falconer, aged 26, was convicted of repeatedly assaulting his victims during a two-year period of abuse.
The crimes took place between November 2015 and July 2017 in the villages of Annan and Stranraer.
The court heard how he attacked one victim while she was asleep.
During the trial at the High Court in Glasgow, Falconer's defense argued that he had been discharged from the army suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome, caused by a serious injury he sustained while serving in Afghanistan.
Lady Stacey, the presiding judge, stated that there was no quick fix for Falconer's issues.
Falconer was sentenced to eight years in prison and was ordered by Lady Stacey to be supervised for a further three years upon release.
Following the case, Police Scotland's Detective Inspector Bryan Lee commented that the sentence provides some closure for the victims, emphasizing that Falconer will be off the streets and no longer pose a danger.
He also highlighted the trauma victims endured while giving evidence and reaffirmed Police Scotland's commitment to supporting victims and bringing perpetrators to justice.
