MAN WHO MASTURBATED IN PUBLIC TO BE SENTENCED
John Drummond, who has a history of previous sexual offense convictions, confessed last month that on May 10 of the previous year, he engaged in sexual activity deliberately in front of two women whom he did not know at a property located on Linside Avenue in Paisley. He, aged 68, was scheduled to be sentenced at Paisley Sheriff Court.
However, the sentencing was delayed until the conditions of a sexual harm prevention order, which the Crown had requested, could be verified.
A sexual harm prevention order is a legal restriction intended to shield the community from sexual dangers by limiting the conduct of those who have committed sexual crimes or are considered likely to pose such risks.
The procurator fiscal depute told Paisley Sheriff Court the area where the offence took place “is inhabited by numerous families with young children.” They revealed Seedhill Road is a “busy thoroughfare” which connects Paisley Town Centre to the Hawkhead area.
At the time of the offence, Drummond lived within 0.2 miles of a primary school and occurred during hours of daylight on a clear bright summers day the surrounding area was densely populated with motorists and pedestrians, including children.
The fiscal depute explained: “Around 2.35pm on May 10, last year, two women were walking together from Seedhill Road into Linside Avenue, when they became aware of Drummond standing at his front door with the door wide open.
“The females noticed that the accused was fully naked with his penis in his right hand, masturbating which he continued to do as they walked past for about 10 seconds.
“Both women were alarmed by this and shouted at him ‘Excuse me’, causing Drummond to eventually walk slowly backwards into his house, partially shutting the door.
“The females were of the impression the accused was still standing behind the door.
“They continued walking up the street, however one of the women decided she was going to go back to confront him.
“As the females walked back towards Drummond’s home address they both noticed he was again outside, with his penis still in his hand.
“The females again shouted ‘Excuse me’ to the accused, causing him to again return inside but this time closing the door properly.
“One of the women immediately contacted the police via 999.
“These females were extremely alarmed by the accused's actions and one is now fearful to allow her small children to play in the street.” Court heard cops attended at Drummond’s home and he answered the door “fully clothed” and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.
He was later arrested and taken to Greenock police station.
Drummond had his bail continued and will now return to the town’s court on Friday for sentencing.
