PAISLEY MAN JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AFTER WIFE'S BIRTHDAY PARTY
A married predator has been jailed for sexually assaulting a sleeping teenager after a party held for his wife.Steven Richardson preyed upon his vulnerable and intoxicated victim at his property in Paisley after 40th birthday celebrations for his spouse on November 26, 2023.
The 43-year-old snuck into a bedroom in the middle of the night, pretending to "check on" the girl, who was 18 at the time.
But he launched a sickening attack before returning and assaulting her again.
He was sentenced to 28 months in jail at Paisley Sheriff Court on Tuesday February 10 and was placed on the sex offenders register for ten years.
The victim, who asked not to be named, believed she was safe in the couple's home and thought she would be safe there, but he attacked her while she was asleep and his wife was in another room.
Richardson previously denied the assault but DNA evidence found on the woman's body was consistent with her account of waking to find him sexually assaulting her.
The court noted his DNA was the only evidence recovered close to the victim, supporting her account.
Sheriff McGinty said: "The complainer in this case was intoxicated on the night in question, when you entered the room in which she was sleeping, in the pretence of looking out for her, and sexually assaulted her on two separate occasions." Richardson was remanded in custody last month after being found guilty unanimously by a jury at the same court.
