JOHN DOUGLAS CUNNINGTON SENTENCED IN TAMPORTH FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST CHILD
A man from Tamworth, John Douglas Cunnington, has been handed a prison sentence of three years and two months after being convicted of serious sexual offences involving a minor.The sentencing took place at Stafford Crown Court, where the court found Cunnington guilty of multiple charges, including inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and committing sexual assault against a young boy.
As part of his punishment, Cunnington, aged 34 and residing on Talland Avenue in Tamworth, will also be required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life, a measure designed to monitor and restrict his activities following his release from prison.
His arrest was made in February 2017, marking the beginning of a lengthy investigation by authorities.
The case drew significant attention due to the nature of the offences and the vulnerability of the victim involved.
Detective Constable Jackie Wood, who is part of the CID South team, issued a statement after the sentencing, emphasizing the gravity of the crimes.
She stated, “Cunnington took advantage of a vulnerable boy for his own sexual gratification.
The victim bravely supported our investigation throughout.
I am glad that justice has now been done for the victim and his family.” Authorities continue to urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicions of sexual abuse.
