In a case that has sparked outrage and deep concern within the community, John Donald, a 58-year-old man residing on Sidney Road in Borstal, near Rochester, is preparing to challenge his recent conviction and sentence for serious sexual offenses involving young children.Donald was sentenced to two and a half years in prison by a judge at Maidstone Crown Court last May after being found guilty of multiple sex crimes committed against two young girls.
One of the victims, a five-year-old girl, was assaulted in the year 2000.
The other victim, who was under 13 at the time of the offenses, was subjected to indecent assault and child indecency more than 16 years ago.
The details of these crimes have left a lasting scar on the victims and their families, and the community has expressed outrage over the possibility of Donald’s early release.
A mother of two from Gillingham, who cannot be named to protect her daughter’s identity, spoke out passionately about her feelings regarding Donald’s case.
Her daughter, now seven years old, was one of the victims.
She said, “I’m fuming.
It’s not right and should not be allowed.
How can he appeal saying his sentence is too severe?
Nothing is too severe for him.
He deserves everything he was given for taking away my daughter’s innocence.
He’s scarred her for life.
My daughter has to live with what he did for the rest of her life, and he thinks he just deserves to walk free.” Donald’s legal situation is complicated by his intention to challenge his sentence at the Appeal Court scheduled for February 14, just nine months after he was initially jailed.
If he is released before the completion of his sentence, he will be required to register with his local police station, providing details of his name and address, a stipulation that will remain in effect for ten years.
This measure is part of the legal requirements for convicted sex offenders, aimed at monitoring and protecting the community from potential reoffending.
