JOANNE AND CHRISTOPHER HOSKING FROM ST IVES CONVICTED FOR CRUELTY TO DOG EDIE

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of St Ives, Joanne Hosking, born on October 17, 1976, and residing on Joannies Avenue with the postal code TR26 2FT, was found guilty of animal cruelty involving her pet dog, Edie. The incident, which was captured on camera, showed Joanne violently punching and forcefully slamming the 12-month-old Jack Russell terrier onto a concrete patio in her garden. The footage revealed that the attack was triggered after Edie accidentally spilled her coffee during a moment in the garden, an act that provoked Joanne's violent response.

Joanne's husband, Christopher John Hosking, born on August 23, 1972, was also implicated in the case. Both individuals admitted to failing in their duty to provide adequate veterinary care for Edie after the assault. Veterinary examinations confirmed the severity of Edie’s injuries, revealing that she had suffered a dislocated hip that caused her significant pain for seven days. The injury was so severe that she required surgery to remove part of her joint, a procedure that underscored the extent of her suffering.

RSPCA Inspector Paul Kempson expressed his distress over the incident, stating, “The number of times that I’ve had to sit through that video and watch it, when I see that little 12-month-old innocent dog being picked up to shoulder height and slammed down onto concrete paving slabs twice and hearing the thud as she makes contact – it actually turns my stomach every time I see it.” His words highlighted the emotional toll such cases take on animal welfare officers.

The court proceedings revealed that Edie was subsequently re-homed with a veterinary nurse, who provided her with the necessary care and attention. Thankfully, Edie has now recovered from her injuries, but the scars of her ordeal remain a stark reminder of the cruelty she endured.

In sentencing, Joanne Hosking received a jail term of 18 weeks for her actions. Her husband, Christopher, was ordered to wear an electronic tag and was placed under a curfew, restricting his movements during designated hours. Both were also fined £1,450 to cover court costs. Additionally, the court imposed a lifelong ban on both individuals from owning or keeping animals, aiming to prevent any future abuse.

This case has garnered significant media attention, with outlets such as BBC News and the Daily Mail reporting on the incident, emphasizing the importance of animal protection laws and the need for accountability in cases of cruelty.
