HALIFAX BUTCHER HANDED SUSPENDED SENTENCE AFTER VIOLENT ATTACK ON PARTNER
Jin Jaros, a 41-year-old man from Halifax, assaulted his long-term partner following an incident when she concealed her car keys from him.The woman, with whom he had been in a relationship for 17 years and with whom he shares a daughter, was trying to prevent him from driving her car because she suspected he was under the influence of drugs.
The event occurred on June 27 amid an argument involving the couple and their child.
Prosecutor Lauren Smith informed Bradford Crown Court that their relationship was turbulent, and during their dispute, she refused to hand over the car keys, suspecting he was intoxicated.
Jaros reacted with anger, grabbing a coffee machine and smashing it on the floor.
When she moved to the kitchen to get away, he followed, grabbing her by the neck and then throwing her onto the floor.
She told him she wouldn’t give him the keys.
In response, he pulled out a butcher’s knife and threatened to puncture her tires, approaching with the weapon before dropping it.
The woman was frightened he might stab her.
Their daughter then called the police, leading to Jaros’s arrest and subsequent release on bail.
Later, on July 12, he returned to the woman’s home demanding clothes; when she declined, he threatened to kill her and her eldest daughter.
In police interviews, Jaros insisted he had no intention of hurting his partner and claimed he never would.
The court was informed that he had a history of 12 convictions for 20 offenses over the past 20 years, including violence and criminal damage.
In December 2021, he had received a suspended sentence for burglary, which he breached when committing the recent offences.
His lawyer argued that Jaros felt remorseful and remained employed as a butcher for 15 years.
Judge Richard Mansell QC sentenced him to 16 weeks imprisonment, suspended for a year, with 25 days of rehabilitation and the remaining days from his previous sentence.
The judge cautioned him that any future harm towards the victim leading to report would result in immediate imprisonment and urged him to address issues related to drugs and alcohol to prevent future incidents.
