JENSEN JULES FROM LIVERSEDGE SENTENCED FOR GROOMING TEENAGE GIRLS AND CAUSING PREGNANCY IN HEINOUS CRIME

In October 2018, a disturbing case unfolded involving Jensen Jules, a 28-year-old man from Liversedge, who was convicted of grooming two underage girls and engaging in sexual activities with them, leading to one girl’s pregnancy. The court proceedings revealed a pattern of manipulative behavior facilitated through social media platforms, specifically Snapchat and WhatsApp, which Jules exploited to establish inappropriate relationships with the young victims.

According to court reports, the two girls, aged 13 and 14 at the time, were flattered by Jules’ attention and advances. He initially contacted one of the girls via Snapchat and WhatsApp, sending her messages that gradually developed into a sexualized relationship. To facilitate secret communication, Jules also gifted the 14-year-old girl a mobile phone, allowing them to exchange messages away from the watchful eyes of guardians and authorities. The court heard how Jules’ actions had a devastating impact on the lives of these young girls, who believed they were in love with him, unaware of the true nature of his intentions.

Leeds Crown Court was told that Jules, who resided on Hare Park Close, had pleaded guilty to three counts of engaging in sexual activity with a minor. The court was also informed that his misconduct resulted in one of the victims, a 14-year-old girl, becoming pregnant. The girl later sought medical attention at Dewsbury and District Hospital, suffering from stomach pains. It was later confirmed that she had given birth to a baby boy, and although she initially refused to identify the father, she eventually disclosed that Jules was the biological father. DNA testing supported her claim, indicating a 21 million to one probability that Jules was the father, a strong scientific indication of paternity.

During the court proceedings, the prosecution revealed that Jules was aware of the girls’ ages, having seen them in their school uniforms. His communication with the 14-year-old girl began with messages on Snapchat and WhatsApp, where he appeared to flatter her by being older and kind. The girl recounted that Jules was the one pushing the relationship, and they never discussed contraception. After their sexual encounter, she expressed regret, but Jules dismissed her concerns, telling her to forget it because it was too late. The girl was unaware she was pregnant until she experienced symptoms, and her situation worsened as she faced bullying at school, being called derogatory names such as ‘slag’. She described her life as being turned upside down, feeling isolated and having to mature rapidly as a result of her circumstances.

The second victim, a 13-year-old girl, also fell prey to Jules’ manipulations. She slept with him when he spent the night at her residence. Her mother became increasingly worried about her daughter’s disinterest in school and her tendency to tell lies. The mother’s concerns led to police intervention when the girl was found late at night curled up inside a pantry cupboard at Jules’ address. The girl later confided in her mother that she had slept with Jules and that he did not use a condom during their encounter. Her mother expressed deep concern, stating that her family had been torn apart by the events and fearing that her daughter might only realize she was a victim of sexual abuse when she was older and had children of her own.

Judge Christopher Batty sentenced Jules to nine and a half years in prison. In addition to the custodial sentence, the judge ordered him to register as a sex offender indefinitely. A sexual harm prevention order was also issued, prohibiting Jules from contacting his victims, including through social media, and from having any unsupervised contact with children under 16 or residing in households with minors. Furthermore, a restraining order was put in place to prevent him from contacting his own son. The judge emphasized the significant damage caused by Jules’ actions, particularly highlighting his selfishness in failing to use contraception, which directly contributed to the pregnancy and emotional trauma experienced by the victims.
