MIDDLESBROUGH PAEDOPHILE JAILED FOR DECADES IN HORRIFIC CHILD ABUSE CASE
A paedophile who repeatedly raped and sexually abused children has been sentenced to an extended 37-year prison term.
Jeffrey Brown, 73, from Gresham Road in Middlesbrough, was handed a 28-year sentence last week.
The court previously heard that Brown shared victims with fellow paedophile John Smith.
Smith, 76, of Heron Drive in Darlington, pleaded guilty to six counts of rape, two counts of indecent assault, and one count of indecency with a child.
He admitted many counts involved multiple attacks.
Smith was sentenced to 35 years in prison with an additional 2 years on licence, and he will be registered as a sex offender for life.
The court heard statements from survivors who described the profound impact of the abuse, including trust issues, lack of confidence, and difficulties forming meaningful relationships.
Judge Timothy Stead described the offences as "of the utmost gravity in the sexual offending of children".
Smith was observed muttering in court before sentencing and is now on the sex offenders register for life.
