2008: SEX OFFENDER JAILED AFTER TARGETING CHILDREN IN SHOP
A man with a history of sexual offences has been sentenced to prison after being caught touching young children in a town centre shop.Jeffrey Bradshaw, also known as Michael Ball, was seen roaming the toy section of a Poundland store, deliberately approaching children.
His arrest followed a report from a shopper who witnessed his actions and informed the police.
The 63-year-old, who has no fixed address, received an 18-month jail sentence from Bolton Crown Court, which was informed of his 50-year history of sexual misconduct.
During the hearing, Judge Timothy Clayson stated that although the recent incidents appeared minor, Bradshaw’s extensive background made him a significant threat.
The judge emphasized that Bradshaw demonstrated ongoing, deep-seated tendencies towards sexual offences involving minors.
Describing the event, he explained that Bradshaw intentionally walked close to children and deliberately brushed against their bottoms while in a crowded shop.
The court was told that the incident took place on May 31 at Poundland on Newport Street, Bolton.
A witness reported seeing Bradshaw touch the bottoms of two children, aged around four and seven, which left her feeling disgusted.
She described his actions as similar to a man in a sweet shop, touching children at will and seemingly getting away with it.
Bradshaw was arrested at the scene after police and security were alerted.
The court also noted that he was violating a sexual offences prevention order issued in August 2006, which prohibited contact with minors under 16.
He previously admitted to charges of sexual assault on a child and breaching his order.
In addition to his prison sentence, his licence was extended by three years, and he was mandated to register as a sex offender for life.
