MONTROSE MAN FACES JAIL AFTER FAILING TO COMPLETE COURT-ORDERED UNPAID WORK FOR ASSAULT
A man from Montrose, Jay Taylor, who assaulted his former girlfriend resulting in a broken jaw, is facing imprisonment after failing to complete a court-ordered community payback.
Taylor had previously caused severe injuries to his victim by punching her in the face, which led to her requiring metal plates and screws fitted into her jaw, and she spent two nights in hospital.
During this incident, Taylor also sent her 176 phone calls and made threats of suicide.
Despite being ordered by a sheriff in June 2021 to pay £2,000 in compensation and complete 240 hours of unpaid work, he later returned to court to admit breaching his community payback order by not fulfilling the unpaid work obligation.
The sheriff revoked his order and ordered him to return for re-sentencing after a social work report.
The victim remains protected under a four-year non-harassment order.
Taylor, age 21 at the time, was initially spared jail due to his age and employment, but his failure to comply with court orders could lead to a prison sentence.
The court emphasized the lasting impact of his assault, which caused permanent impairment, and noted the ongoing legal process, with Taylor scheduled to be re-sentenced on January 26.
