JASWINDER SINGH SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT IN FALKIRK

A 51-year-old taxi driver named Jaswinder Singh has been sentenced to prison after being found guilty of sexually assaulting an 18-year-old woman in Falkirk.

The incident occurred on Sunday, 4 February 2024, as the young woman was returning home following a night out.

Singh's actions during this encounter were deemed a severe breach of trust, especially considering the vital role taxis play in ensuring safe transportation for individuals after late-night outings.

Sheriff Maryam Labaki, presiding over the case at Falkirk Sheriff Court, described Singh's conduct as a "grave breach of trust." She emphasized that passengers rely heavily on taxi services to reach their homes safely and expect to be protected from harm during their journey.

The sheriff stated, "Given the seriousness of the offence, I am satisfied that there is no alternative than that of a custodial sentence," leading to Singh's imprisonment.

Singh was sentenced to 30 months in prison on Tuesday.

In addition to his incarceration, he was ordered to register on the sex offenders' register and will be subject to a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) for a period of ten years.

These measures are intended to prevent any future offenses and to monitor his conduct moving forward.

Detective Sergeant Stewart Walton commented on the case, highlighting the betrayal of trust involved in the assault.

He stated, "He abused that trust and his actions are sickening." Sergeant Walton also expressed appreciation for the bravery shown by the victim in coming forward and cooperating with authorities.

He conveyed hope that the outcome of the case will provide some measure of closure for the young woman and serve as a reminder of the importance of accountability in such serious matters.
