JASON GARSIDE OF MALTBY AND MIDDLESBROUGH SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN DONCASTER AND STAINETON
In a series of disturbing criminal cases spanning over two decades, Jason Garside, a man from Maltby and Middlesbrough, has been convicted and sentenced for multiple counts of child sexual offences.The allegations primarily concern offences committed in the late 1980s and early 1990s, with victims ranging from young girls to boys, and the legal proceedings revealing a pattern of disturbing behavior.
In August 2015, Garside, aged 43 and residing on Thicket Drive in Maltby, was sentenced to 34 months in prison after being found guilty of indecently assaulting two young girls aged eight and ten.
The crimes took place in a village near Maltby between 1989 and 1992.
The trial at Sheffield Crown Court saw a jury convict Garside on two counts of indecent assault, with him having previously entered guilty pleas to two additional counts of indecency and one count of gross indecency.
The victim statements, notably from a woman now aged 33, revealed the lasting psychological scars inflicted by Garside’s actions, with one victim describing how she 're-lives' the trauma daily and how Garside's abuse 'corrupted and polluted' her childhood.
Prosecutor Rachel Harrison highlighted the emotional toll, emphasizing that one victim has suffered severe psychological harm that continues to affect her adult life, including her relationships and her sleep, as her husband has reportedly woken up to her screams during the night.
Judge Julian Goose QC, presiding over the case, sentenced Garside to nearly three years in prison and also imposed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Additionally, Garside was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions.
Earlier in July 2015, Garside faced further allegations and was found guilty of sexual assault involving two young girls, aged nine, in a village near Maltby.
Although he was acquitted of raping one of the girls, the jury convicted him of two counts of indecent assault against both victims.
Garside, then 43, had already pleaded guilty to two counts of indecent assault and one of gross indecency with a child at the start of the trial.
The court heard that Garside, at the age of 19, lured the victims into a den in the woods, where he exposed himself and sexually assaulted them while touching himself.
The assaults only ceased when one of the girls’ fathers came looking for her.
One of the victims recounted her experience, stating, “I knew it was wrong because he pulled away and said ‘don’t say anything, you’ll get into trouble’.” Judge Goose remarked that he needed more information about Garside before sentencing, acknowledging the seriousness of the offences and indicating that custody was almost inevitable.
Garside was granted conditional bail and scheduled for sentencing on August 13.
In a separate hearing in July 2015, Garside pleaded guilty to three counts of historic sex offences against girls under 13, specifically two counts of indecent assault and one of gross indecency with a child.
However, he denied seven other charges, including two counts of rape and five additional indecent assault charges, which involved two girls over four separate incidents.
These offences are alleged to have occurred between 1989 and 1994 in the village of Stainton near Middlesbrough.
The trial concerning these additional charges is ongoing, and the full extent of Garside’s criminal conduct remains under review.
