JANIE EMERY CAERNARFON COURT WELSHPOOL SEX OFFENDER WALKING FREE
In March 2017, a disturbing case unfolded involving a female sex offender from Welshpool who was found in a compromising situation with a minor.The incident came to light when a housemate discovered Janie Emery, aged 24, in bed with a 15-year-old boy, raising serious concerns about her conduct and the safety of the young individual involved.
Janie Emery, who works as a care worker, appeared before Caernarfon Crown Court to face the charges.
During the hearing, she admitted to two counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child.
A third charge was formally dropped after prosecutors decided not to proceed with evidence against her.
Emery’s address was listed as Pentrefelin Terrace, Welshpool.
The court was told that Emery was fully aware that her actions were illegal and morally wrong.
Judge Niclas Parry addressed her directly, emphasizing the gravity of her misconduct.
He stated, “You knew his age and you knew it was against the law but the offences were committed more than once.
You ignored warnings and your behaviour has affected the boy.” Despite the seriousness of the offences, which technically met the criteria for immediate custody, the judge took into account Emery’s guilty plea, albeit late in the process, as well as her previously good character.
As a result, she was sentenced to a 12-month prison term, suspended for a year.
Additionally, Emery was ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid community work and to undertake a rehabilitation program supervised by the Probation Service.
Furthermore, Emery’s name and details will be entered onto the Sexual Offenders Register for a period of ten years.
She is also subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which will remain in effect for ten years, restricting her activities and interactions to prevent further harm.
The case was brought to public attention after the victim’s mother expressed concerns about her son’s relationship with Emery.
Between January and March of the previous year, the boy’s mother had questioned her son about the amount of time he was spending with Emery, suspecting an inappropriate relationship.
Emery initially denied any sexual misconduct, claiming they were merely friends.
However, the situation escalated when the boy was found in Emery’s bedroom, prompting the matter to be reported to the police.
Prosecutor Jonathan Austin outlined that the incident was uncovered when Emery’s housemate discovered the boy in her bed.
He also revealed that Emery had bought gifts for the boy and allowed him to purchase cigarettes, further complicating the case and raising concerns about her influence and conduct.
This case highlights the ongoing issues surrounding the protection of minors and the importance of vigilance in safeguarding vulnerable individuals from exploitation and abuse, especially in communities like Welshpool where such incidents can have a profound impact.
